Young Palestinians who seek higher education face many barriers. Sometimes, it can take 10 years or more to get an undergraduate degree for Arabs living in Palestine, Israel and Palestinian refugee camps.
STEPS’ trustees were formed in 2011 to provide support for talented Palestinians to achieve graduate education at St Andrews University. We are also honoured to have two distinguished patrons of our charity: the novelist Val MacDermid and Professor Yasir Suleiman.
The trustees consider applications and select scholarship recipients, and organise educational events for the public. We support the STEPS scholars before they come and while they are here. Most importantly, we continually fundraise to make it possible for two students to gain Masters degrees at St Andrews University. Our trustees receive no remuneration.
All are welcome to attend our Annual General Meeting, usually in June. This will be advertised under Events. The accounts are audited each year by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
STEPS is a registered charity (Scottish Charity No. SCO42518) and is administered by a board of trustees. STEPS current trustees as of June 2018 are:
